Hey
errybody, CF Nitmore checking in here. The anonymous cuteness who usually does the writing is taking some time off from le blog to pursue other artistic endeavors (Ableton), and while he’s cooking up beats, ima be helping feed you children your musics. So please allow me to introduce myself with Some Stuff I’ve Been Listening To:

1. Shigeto- “Ringleader”

One of the many awesome things about Shigeto is his beautiful Instagram (follow him @__SHIGETO). Another is that he makes beautiful, dreamy, jazzy, beautiful electronic music. Another is that he is signed to the Ghostly International record label- consistently putting out some of the best electronic music in… Michigan? The Midwest? Possibly the world. Based out of Ann Arbor, MI, Ghostly is seriously a go-to stop to find a billion amazing artists with weird names, like Dabrye, Tycho, Gold Panda, Matthew Dear, ADULT., Phantogram…. I mean really any artist they sign has the triple boom boom pow of being really talented, expertly produced, and the finishing touch of a very artistically minded release, etc. I have a lot more to share on the subject so I’m already thinking that my next post will be a rundown of some Ghostly artists I love…. stay tuned.

2. Two Fingers- “Defender Rhythm”

One of my friends just turned me on to Two Fingers- collab project between Amon Tobin and some drum n bass guy named Doubleclick- and I was Blown Away. I had a hard time picking just one song to put here because their stuff is that solid- no bad songs, all the perfect amount of deep and dancey but out-there and weird enough to keep you on your toes. They never get stuck in the repetition that is essential to a lot of electronic, but (to me at least) can start to get boring after a while. Their songs are just really badass. Just listen. Especially to anything that has “Rhythm” in the title. (Also: Rhythm is totally one of those words that you look at and it just never seems like it’s spelled right.)

3. Kankick- “Instrumental 3”

I really like hip-hop beats sans the actual rappers. I mean I love regular ol’ hip hop too, but somethin about dem beats… I don’t know! Just really does it for me. Obviously a big fan of Madlib, Dilla, etc. Kankick is some dude I stumbled upon one day, and even though a lot of his stuff features different MCs, I think he really shines when he sticks to da beats. His Acid Massive Musical and his first album, From Artz Unkown, are totally worth a spin. Sometimes he’s a little slow, but always workin those chill, goody stoner vibes.

NOTE: Just learned through some wikipedi-ing that he grew up with Madlib, so that explains the similarities.

 4. Mala- “Changuito”

So I guess it came out in 2012, but I didn’t learn about it until 2013, and Mala in Cuba was definitely one of my favorite/most played albums of the year. My old roommate showed me this shit like a year ago and I’m still not sick of it. Follow UK dub producer Mala as he spends time in- you guessed it- Korea (kidding- Cuba) making this album, influenced by the music, the people, the dancing, the communism. This shit is dope. it’s got these pretty little Spanish-style piano and guitar and trumpet pieces and then this sick dirty dark bass just bringing it all home- dope. So good. Also an album that moves along and transitions between songs really well and kind of tells a story, yananamean?

5. Jeremih- “All the Time”

I am embarrassingly obsessed with this song. The first version I heard was the Shlomo one- all sped up and shit, and also really good, but I like the original better. This has a little chopped and screwed feel, and it’s just slow and snakey and goodness. Jeremih is one of the top “crooners” out there right now if you ask me. And i just really like how the bleeping of “fuck” works into the song. That actually might be my favorite part. Also, one of my weaknesses is slutty R&B. There’s a version of this with Weezy F but that should just be ignored. This is a good song for making babies.
